eBay Gets Closer to Its Affiliates
While many mortgage companies and supporting lead generation partners are cutting affiliate programs or pay-outs eBay wants affiliates closer to their business.
eBay seems to view their affiliates as a strategic portion of their business model:
“Affiliate partners are central to eBay’s ongoing strategy of improving the user experience and increasing engagement,” said Matt Ackley, vice president of Internet marketing at eBay. “The new eBay Partner Network will allow us to have a direct relationship with our affiliates, innovate faster and deliver new products and tools in a more timely and efficient manner, providing new revenue opportunities for our affiliates and creating a more streamlined user experience for our buyers and sellers.”
This closer relationship is certain to bring a better experience for the eBay consumer and potential advantages to their affiliate network.
Many top affiliates saw the eBay/CJ split coming and were even able to get some direct reaction from Commission Junction.
An even larger story may be the effect of the combined effect of the one-two punch to Commission Junction’s parent, ValueClick: Commission Junction losses one of their largest clients with eBay and in the same day Value Click gets slammed with FTC’s largest CAN-SPAM settle charge of $2.9 million.
