IAC/Interactive Cooking Up Something New?

by Bill Rice

Is IAC/Interactive Corp cooking up something new and multi-cultural from the LendingTree Ballantyne offices on Rushmore Drive?

The Charlotte Observer seems to have caught wind of something:

The site is the first ethnically themed initiative for IAC/InterActiveCorp, the New York-based Internet conglomerate that operates sites such as LendingTree and Ask.com. Although the site is meant for a national audience, Johnny Taylor, head of IAC’s Black Web Enterprises Inc. unit, is leading the effort from a Ballantyne office on, yes, Rushmore Drive.

But, what is it?

“It’s not a content site. It’s not a social networking site,” he said. “There’s nothing else out there like it.”

What do you think it is? Get on the list at RushmoreDrive.com and see April 10th.

Being a former LT person and knowing a little (very little), this venture was announced internally by Diller back in 2006. IAC is looking to tap into the African American market. This website will be geared towards this and Johnny Taylor will be heading it up. Johnny has ties to Bob Johnson of the Charlotte Bobcats so it makes sense that IAC is looking to base it here. It is not a lead centric marketplace, but may have connections to LT only by association. Keep in mind, ESPN regional is also located on Rushmore Drive as well as AXA Insurance.
